| Bio: | This journal is devoted to the Monkees fanfic series Secrets and Lies, a collaberative effort between myself and The first fourteen stories can be found by clicking the link above—new stories will be posted here in addition to Long Title. Also, because I am partially obsessed with Eastern religion and the warrior arts, I’ll also be posting interesting passages from books, pictures, and anything else I care to post. Just a note: If you add this journal to your friends list (which you are certainly welcome to) you will not be added back. The only people who will be allowed to look at friends-locked posts (which will contain story ideas/brainstorming, and partial chapters for upcoming stories) are my co-author and my betas. It’s not because I don’t like you. Questions, comments, and critiques are welcome; I will (with few exceptions) leave comments open. Flamers and trolls will be banned. (For the uninitiated, a troll is a person who posts/comments with the intention of stirring either trouble or tempers—or both.) I welcome feedback, but not unconditionally. If there is an aspect of the series that requires improvement, I welcome hearing about it. (Truly. I do.) Those include but are not limited to: - pointing out spelling/grammar errors, or awkwardly worded phrases/sentences - continuity errors (characters mysteriously disappearing from a scene, a character putting on his shoes three paragraphs after he already put them on, etc.) or confusing descriptions - out of character actions, plot holes, or plot lines that don’t quite “connect” Though I welcome constructive criticism, my patience for opinionated rants is growing shorter as time goes on. If your comments do not aim to help improve this series, but are merely you venting about how much you don’t like this, that, or the entire series itself, keep them to yourself or rant about it in your own journal, or just yell at your walls. If you don’t like the series or are disturbed by any part of it, don’t read it. I put warnings on every story and every chapter; if you continue on and read something that disturbs or upsets you, that is not my responsibility or the responsibility of my co-writer. This series has been very well received and has won a couple awards, and we happen to think it’s pretty good. (And we’re having way too much fun writing it.) If you disagree and think it sucks, yay for you. Don’t bring it here. Inflammatory, argumentative comments that annoy the owner of this journal will be deleted. If such comments continue, anonymous commenting will be turned off permanently and troll journals will be banned rapid-fire like some hellish whack-a-mole game. It is also at my discretion whether to pay any attention to constructive criticism. If you offer any thoughts or ideas, my co-writer and I will discuss them, but if we do not agree with your interpretations, ideas, or opinions, they will be ignored. Make a nuisance of yourself after and you will find yourself in the Valley of the Banned. Besides feedback, the only kind of constructive criticism I do not welcome nor allow is criticism that misses the point of this series. These stories are supposed to be fun and interesting—if they're not, then I'd like to hear about it. I do not want to hear that the series needs to be reworked to adhere to a more postmodern critique or that it needs to be completely rewritten to observe Aristotelian unities or any other nonsense that tries to make this series into something it is not. What I do welcome are questions about characterization, plotlines, or scene details. Please make sure, though, that these are informed questions or criticisms; I tend not to lend any weight to comments from people who have either not read all the stories or who have given them a surface reading without thinking about things before commenting. Yes, I am a future-English-professor snob with a college degree and I demand a little more from my readers than "Great! Loved it! More!" (Not that hearing that isn't nice.) Also, contrary to popular belief, I am not infallible and to this day I will catch errors in stories that have been on my site for months. If you find spelling, punctuation, or continuity errors, feel free to point them out; make sure, however, that they are errors, because otherwise I'll delete your comment and have a good chuckle. -- | ||||
